Tips before you schedule a Peel:
Crucial Safety Rules Before You Peel:
|
|
- Stop Exfoliants & Retinoids: You must avoid physical scrubs 3 to 4 days before a peel, as they thin the skin on your cheeks and nose and can lead to burns. You must also stop using all retinoids at least 4 to 7 days before application.
- Check Your Medications: If you take Accutane, your skin’s composition changes drastically into a highly sensitive state. You must wait a minimum of six to twelve months after stopping Accutane before attempting a peel.
- Time It Right: The ideal time to perform a chemical peel is immediately after your menstrual cycle ends.
- Start Low and Slow: Never hunt for the “strongest” acid. Always start with the lowest percentage and just 1-2 layers to avoid severe chemical burns, permanent color changes, or scarring.
-
Always Patch Test: Test a dime-sized amount of new acid on the thin, sensitive skin of your neck or behind your ear. Leave it on for the directed time, rinse, and watch the area for 24-48 hours. Never test on your hands or legs if you plan to peel your face. I do this to make sure on sensitive skin!
- Restarting After a Break: If you took the summer off from peeling, do not resume with the same high percentage or multiple layers you left off with. Your skin’s tolerance has changed, so you must start over with 1-2 layers and slowly build back up.
